Sunderland Partnership has organised several events this year including a hub activities day where pupils were treated to a series of demonstrations on the subject of ‘A Vacuum’ and were able to visit a mobile planetarium. This was aimed at Year 8 before options and Year 10 before careers decisions. Most of our partners attended and the feedback was excellent – especially about the planetarium.
A trip to the Life Centre enabled a group of 56 Year 10 pupils to participate in a bespoke Physics Planetarium workshop, and to visit the Inside Out exhibition.
In the coming year, amongst other things, we are hoping to run a STEM competition for pupils from all partnership schools and continue to support educational trips and opportunities for all. In addition, we are continuing to work with local science teachers to provide CPD to improve the learning experience for pupils in physics across the City. We also want to hold a number of physics focused careers fairs. Finally, we aim to do some work with the IOP to encourage girls into physics and other STEM subjects.
