Brian Cox School Experiments

The Ogden Trust primary team has been working with the Royal Society to produce new content for the Brian Cox School Experiments bank of videos and resources, which is available online on the STEM Learning website.

The experiments are designed to support teachers to carry out experimental science in the classroom, and relate it to real world experiences. Creative and experimental approaches are particularly important for keeping students interested and engaged in science, and for equipping them well for the future, whether or not they pursue a career in science.

Each written resource is accompanied by four videos; two with extra information on how to carry out the experiment and two on how the experiment relates to the real world. These create a flexible pack and teachers can use as many or as few as suits them.

There are currently six sets of resources available, including the recently released: What factors affect the size of a shadow in a shadow theatre? and What factors affect the pitch and the volume of sound? These latest releases use material from the Ogden Phizzi Light & Sound CPD; the sound video was filmed at Ogden primary partnership school Earlsdon Primary, Coventry.

The image is taken from the Sound: levitation video, as researchers at the University of Bristol use sound to levitate the red particle.
