Science in a circle

The East Lancs Primary Partnership has recently held a competition to create a badge to represent science at the partnership schools. The idea was conceived by Oliver Haines – science co-ordinator at Barrowfield St Thomas Primary. Barrowfield is one of six schools in the partnership and has recently been awarded its gold PSQM. (Oliver pictured right, receiving the award at a presentation evening at MOSI.)

Oliver explains more about his idea for the sign: “We thought that it would be exciting for each school to contribute an aspect to the plaque. We gave the children a science theme and two weeks to come up with a circular sign. The results were fabulous with ideas from Tim Peake to Isaac Newton and plenty of kicked footballs and flying planes in between. It was really hard to select the six winners, but we are delighted with the final selection.

“The experience has helped to inspire the children and wider community and keep our science agenda in their minds. The final plaque will be proudly displayed in the reception area for each school – this creative, child-inspired, collaborative plaque will remind everyone who visits the schools that we value scientific enquiry. I can’t wait to see the final sign!”

The East Lancs Partnership includes the following schools: Barnoldswick CE Primary School, Gisburn Primary School, Ightenhill Primary School, Lower House Junior School, St Thomas CE Primary School and Whittlefield Primary School, Each school will have their winning picture featured on the partnership plaque.
