To infinity and beyond

Ogden Teacher Fellows Jackie Flaherty and Amanda Poole are currently working as ESERO_UK Space Ambassadors on the Tim Peake Primary Project. Both fellows are working with a group of local schools, providing Space themed CPD for the teachers and exciting Space themed outreach opportunities for the pupils.

Jackie’s Cotswolds group met for twilight CPD at Chipping Camden Phiz Lab in November. They are a very enthusiastic group who engaged fully with all the practical activities. One of the teachers was a friend of Tim Peake himself so everyone was interested to hear about their time in the army together!

Some great ideas came out of their action planning with Rocket days and Satellite Science investigations based on the "Space Case" resource
booked in for December. One school has planned a busy "Tim Peake Week" in January with cross-curricular links involving the whole school from nursery to Year 6! All of the schools are aiming for the Space Education Quality Mark.

Amanda’s Leamington Spa and Coventry group had a full day of CPD at the Phiz Lab. They explored the wide variety of activities and resources available to them to engage their pupils with Tim Peake’s mission and Space Science in general. Since then, Amanda has been regularly visiting schools with an outreach workshop about the ECLSS systems in the Soyuz capsule and on the ISS. The children have been having great fun collaborating to explore the best way to recycle astronaut urine to make clean drinking water.
