Train the trainer

Last week, the Ogden Primary Science team held their third 'Phizzi Forces' train the trainer day at King Edward VI Five Ways School in Birmingham. Four people attended the event – bringing the total number of trainers to 30 across the UK. (Find your local trainer here.)

Jackie Flaherty and Dr Jenny Watson, Ogden Teacher Fellows, hosted the event to share the Primary Forces CPD with a wider team of Ogden Teacher Fellows and Regional Reps. The train the trainer days are designed to give teachers the skills to both deliver the lessons, and to teach others how best to deliver them too.

Thanks for an excellent day yesterday. So useful to have such a ‘ready to go’ CPD – hoping to get a date out to primary schools next week and get the ball rolling.

The Primary Forces CPD day was launched this year to create a high-quality, professional package, designed to be delivered by Ogden Science Officers and Teacher Fellows to Primary School teachers all over the UK. The aim is to ensure a consistent and exciting approach to the key strands of primary physics - and the Forces package is the first of four that the Ogden Primary team hope to develop.

“It is fantastic that we've trained 30 exceptional colleagues, all going out into primaries to spread the physics love” says Ogden Primary Consultant, Wendy Cox. “In January we launch Light & Sound 'train the trainer' events!”

"Ready made - to go! Literacy & numeracy included."

The Ogden primary team has created a book of ten forces enquiries with clear plans, differentiated questioning suggestions and model outcomes. The enquiries are suitable for Y1 to Y6 learners, and progression in both English and maths is built into the resource. The book is accompanied by a resource box with the equipment required for all of the enquiries to be run back in schools.

"Brilliant, hands-on, exciting! Great take away resources for both
trainers and schools."

"Fantastic, enthusiastic training. Excellent discussions and ideas and resources. Fun!!!"
